Echoes of Motion

Muriel Elmaleh

$5,351

Echoes of Motion belongs to the Musical Abstraction series. Movement rarely disappears the moment it ends. It leaves traces, memories, and rhythms that continue to resonate long after the gesture itself has passed. Echoes of Motion explores those invisible afterimages through layers of gestural marks, drips, and sweeping lines that build upon one another in a continuous dialogue between instinct and control. Created through an intuitive process of Action Painting, the work does not seek to represent movement but to embody it. Each mark becomes both an action and its memory, allowing the physical gesture to remain present long after the moment of creation has passed. First realized in 2008, Echoes of Motion marks a defining moment in the development of Muriel Elmaleh's artistic language, introducing the balance between freedom and structure that continues to shape her work today.

Muriel Elmaleh

Muriel Elmaleh is a contemporary artist whose practice is rooted in expressive abstraction and intuitive, gesture-driven painting. Working with acrylic on canvas, she translates emotion into movement through layered marks, drips, and sweeping gestures, creating compositions driven by rhythm, tension, and physical energy. Beyond abstraction, some of Elmaleh’s figurative works draw from personal memory and her childhood in Ivory Coast, exploring themes of motherhood, resilience, and cultural heritage. Self-taught and instinct-driven, Elmaleh approaches painting as an intuitive and physical act. Her process moves between spontaneity and control, allowing movement to guide the composition.
