Woodland Guardian
“Zehavit loves everything that shimmers in the forest. The glow of fireflies, crumbs of light in the night, touches of sunset, and glimmers of moonlit dew.” On a rigid wooden backing covered with illustrated deer fabric, a soft little world takes shape, where a textile fairy blends in with the illustrated characters, almost becoming part of the picture itself. At the top of the piece, a sun has been carefully assembled from oak twigs gathered in the forest and adorned with yellow lichen. Layers of sheer, shimmering tulle extend beyond the edges of the artwork, adding softness and movement. My inspiration comes from the nature that surrounds me, especially in winter, when the grass is fresh, the lichens turn yellow, and the forest is full of life. I create each piece by hand, combining illustrated fabrics, characters, and small natural treasures I collect in the forests of the Golan Heights. Each piece begins with a small element from nature and a connection between different materials. Slowly, a story begins to emerge. Every artwork comes with a postcard. On one side is a story written especially for the piece, and on the other, a space for a personal message to the child. Because each piece grows from an inspiration that might begin with a branch, a color, or a shape, every artwork is one of a kind. No two are ever the same.
