The Last House in the Talpiot Ma'abara
Upright cypresses and lush vegetation surround the last remaining structure from the Ma'abara that once stood in southern Jerusalem. The house is enclosed by tall, bright, modern buildings facing a single low, red-toned roof under soft, grayish skies. Free oil strokes combine deep greens, ochre tones, and smoky blue, alongside touches of yellow nasturtium blossoms. My artistic approach is based on stain painting using a method of creative release, the technique through which I learned to paint and which I apply in my own art and with my students. I paint both from observation and imagination, with my main subjects being the landscapes of my childhood, moving between Kibbutz Magen in the western Negev and Jerusalem, where I was born. My work combines different media, mainly oil on canvas and linen, pastels, watercolor, and gouache. Each medium allows me room to search and wander creatively, giving me the freedom to express painterly stains, release, and vibrant color in its own distinct way.
