Rabbit in the Berry Patch
“The wise forest rabbit loves red cherries and unusual hats. Whenever someone shares a problem with her, she smiles a big, round smile and announces solemnly: ‘I’ll return when evening curls up with the caterpillars and sings them a gentle lullaby.’” On a rigid wooden backing covered with berry-patterned fabric, a little fabric rabbit peeks out. Around her is a unique handmade frame crafted from oak branches gathered in the forest, with their natural, irregular shapes preserved as part of the artwork. The branches retain their moss and lichen in shades of green and yellow, carrying with them the colors and textures of a forest alive with tiny details. My inspiration comes from the nature that surrounds me, especially in winter, when the grass is fresh, the lichens turn yellow, and the forest is full of life. I create each piece by hand, combining illustrated fabrics, characters, and small natural treasures I collect in the forests of the Golan Heights. Each piece begins with a small element from nature and a connection between different materials. Slowly, a story begins to emerge. Every artwork comes with a postcard. On one side is a story written especially for the piece, and on the other, a space for a personal message to the child. Because each piece grows from an inspiration that might begin with a branch, a color, or a shape, every artwork is one of a kind. No two are ever the same.
