Fourfold Amber Portrait-Papercuts

Maya Golk Apter

$1,220

A stylized female face unfolds across four adjoining panels, each variation turning the gaze and contour into a rhythmic graphic pattern. Cut paper shapes create crisp edges and strong contrast, using a limited range of amber-orange and deep reddish brown to emphasize silhouette and repetition. The result is bold, cinematic, and highly focused.

My work unfolds in the elusive space between memory and fiction, between personal experience and family or collective myths. The geographical and emotional starting point of my art is rooted in La Peรฑa Laraโ€”a secluded island on the Rรญo Capitรกn in the Tigre Delta, Argentina. It is the place where I grew up, and which, over the years, has transformed from a tangible landscape into an internal, mythical, charged, and persistent one. In recent years, I have focused on the medium of paper cutting, working in a free, manual, and intuitive manner.
