Fire

A solitary figure fills the canvas, its head thrown back and mouth opened wide while the ribcage and one dark hand emerge through veils of pink, orange, violet, and white. Layered oil brushwork softens the anatomy into fluid transitions, balancing skeletal structure with glowing color fields. The result is intense and visceral, with a charged emotional presence. This painting was born out of the feeling of a particular period a time when the world seemed to carry on as usual, yet something inside had already changed. The figure holds itself together despite the fracture, and the fire surrounding it is not only literal fire; it represents everything that burns within: loss, pain, and uncertainty. Amid all of this, the heart continues to beat. To me, this work is about the strength to keep going even when everything feels heavy.

My name is Harel Shemesh. I am 20 years old and from Petah Tikva. I primarily create oil paintings, combining rich, vibrant colors with a critical perspective on the reality and society in which we live. My works explore the gap between ideals and reality, as well as themes such as identity, emotions, and human experiences. My creative process begins with a personal idea or emotion and develops through layers of color and symbolism into a work that invites the viewer to interpret it in their own way.
