Two closely grouped faces occupy the foreground, surrounded by pale blue silhouettes and broad fields of yellow, red, and ochre. Gestural oil brushwork, visible canvas grain, and thicker passages give the figures a shifting, tactile presence. Maureen Fain is a multi-talented artist, painting in both oils and watercolor, a sculptor, teacher and author of articles on watercolor portraiture.
