Two Generations

Two real faces — but neither is given room. On the left, two human presences stacked in narrow strips: one tilted, seen from above; one looking directly outward with a gaze that does not flinch. Two versions of the same person, perhaps. Or two generations carrying the same unresolved question. Between them and the world: a grid. Black, red, yellow, orange, white — a calendar of conflicts, a ledger of everything that came before. Structured, rigid, indifferent. On the right, soft curved masks in turquoise, pink, and blue lean inward — gentler than the grid, but equally impenetrable. The real faces are caught between two kinds of barrier: the hard geometry of history and the soft curvature of performance. The strip of truth grows narrower with each painting in the series. Painting III asks how much space the real self needs — and how little it is actually given.
