The Narrowing

The real face is given the narrowest strip of space. A vertical sliver — detailed, tender, carrying a quiet pain in one eye and a flushed cheek. Everything around it expands: a large teal mask claiming its territory, a pink mask emerging from below, darkness creeping in from the corner. The masks do not fight for space. They simply take it. Slowly. Naturally. As if it was always theirs. Painting VIII documents a quiet erasure — not dramatic, not violent. Just the gradual narrowing of the space where the real self is allowed to exist.
