Frayed Pride

Semi-constrained Lichtenberg figures on scavenged and upcycled wood, stained in acrylic and oil, low gloss yacht varnish. For this piece I chose an especially worn and beaten board, that no buffing will remove all its wounds. contrasting with the warm colors, demonstrating the cost of courage in a constant, unyielding, never-ending struggle, with no respite, taking the beating along the way and moving on, wearing your scars on your sleeve. A striking fractal composition on wood, where branching dark lines pulse across warm ochre, sienna, and teal fields. The natural grain enriches the surface, giving the work both organic tactility and a sense of elemental energy, somewhere between topographic map, lightning trace, and meditative abstraction.
