Yogev Abutbul

A painter active in the field for over a decade, Yogev lives and works from his studio in Ramat Gan, Israel. He is a graduate of approximately seven years of academic drawing and painting studies under the artist David Buskovitz. Working in oil, acrylic, and highly detailed graphite drawings, his artistic process is deeply influenced by the tempera technique. Even when using other media, his approach is based on building paintings through multiple layers, creating a foundation in which light emerges from beneath the surface and employing glazes to achieve depth, transparency, and unexpected color interactions. He draws his primary inspiration from nature, alongside a strong sense of spatial and three-dimensional thinking that is reflected throughout his work. The purpose of his paintings is to evoke emotion. Each work invites the viewer to pause for a moment, enter the painted space, and discover a personal connection within it. In recent years, Yogev has also been engaged in a body of work focused on the climate crisis and its impact on the natural environment. Created in oil paint while drawing on the principles of the tempera technique, this series explores the tension between the beauty and power of nature and the accelerated changes it undergoes as a result of human activity. Through layered applications of paint, glazing, and the interplay of light and shadow, these works seek to evoke both awareness and emotion, inviting viewers to reconsider the relationship between humanity, the landscape, and their shared future.
