The painting illustrates the hopeless struggle between industrialization and nature, as a monkey tries to stop a menacing machine tearing apart its world, while the rest of the forest animals are embedded in the trunks like ghosts. The tearful eyes integrated into the nearby trees turn the forest into a living, aching entity, echoing a silent cry against human destruction.
