Vitas Dijokas
About
Vitas Dijokas is a Latvian-born Israeli artist working in abstract expressionism. His practice draws inspiration from Jean-Michel Basquiat, the Russian avant-garde, and the agitational visual language of the early twentieth century. Dijokasโ paintings function as open dialogues between artist and viewer, inviting an intimate encounter with raw emotion, memory, and inner narrative. Through vibrant color fields, hand-written slogans, and playful yet unsettling imagery, his works explore psychological identity and the tension between internal states โ often distilled into the recurring theme: โI am a child, I am an adult.โ His visual universe blends sincerity, irony, and whimsy. Motifs such as whales, robots, and fragmented pink cube-like spaces appear as symbolic figures โ carriers of vulnerability, protection, and imagination โ forming a personal mythology that reflects both private introspection and collective experience. The paintings oscillate between innocence and awareness, humor and gravity, offering viewers a momentary stream of consciousness and an invitation to reconnect with their own inner landscapes. A self-taught, independent artist since 2020, Dijokas works from his home studio in Jaffa, Israel. Between 2021 and 2025, he has participated in numerous exhibitions and art fairs in Israel, including Fresh Paint Art Fair (2024, 2025), Artneuroverse Biennale (2024โ2025), solo and street exhibitions in Tel Aviv, and multidisciplinary festivals and performances. Alongside his artistic practice, Dijokas maintains an active parallel career as a financial consultant and CFO โ a dual identity that subtly informs his work through themes of structure, control, and emotional economy.
