Rebecca Shore
About
Gifted with a professional watercolor set by her aunt at the age of five, Rebecca Shore spent her childhood and teens creating art. She studied art and art history at Vassar college and has a degree in art therapy. Her journey from New York to Jerusalem began in 1984. After moving to Israel, Judaism, Jewish tradition and the Jerusalem landscape became the primary subjects of her art. She launched a line of Judaica, ketubot and childrensโ prints in 1988. The colorful imagery and graphic style of these pieces has not only made her work beloved by many but also serves as a testament to her deep connection to both her faith and her craft. In the early 2000โs she took up oil painting and studied with Jordan Wolfson, Meir Appelfeld and attended workshops with Israel Hirschberg and the Jerusalem Studio School. She has spent the last 25 years pursuing plein air drawing and painting in and around Jerusalem. She had a solo show at ArtSpace that was curated by Meir Appelfeld. Cezanne, Van Gogh, Chardin and Matisse are some of her favorite painters. In addition to traditional landscapes and still life, she paints large abstract pieces that are inspired by Jewish mysticism and visual memory of the landscape. Shore's ability to blend tradition with modern design sensibilities has undoubtedly contributed to the widespread appeal of her work, reaching homes across the globe. Her prints, watercolors, oils and ketubot, carry with them not just aesthetic beauty but also a sense of spiritual significance.
