Katty Green

Katty Green creates layered acrylic, oil and mixed-media paintings built from faces, marks, erasure and repeated looking. Originally from Ukraine and now based in northern Israel, Green is a multidisciplinary artist whose path moved through visual work, design, and the construction of a private mythology that eventually found its clearest form in painting. Her figures are not portraits in the polite sense. They arrive as witnesses, masks, private saints, warnings, bad omens with good faces. The work often begins with a face, but the face is only the door: beneath it are scratches, symbols, jokes, scars, soft violence and small hidden gestures. Green works by hand, through visible texture, restless brushwork and the need to let the image misbehave before it settles. Each work is one of a kind: a presence with its own private weather, its own face, and its own unfinished story.
