Ayelet Hashachar Amar

$1,097

The painting has layers of color, onto which I transferred an old sketch I had created, featuring a curtain and a sign reading “OUTSIDER” — a reflection of how I felt for many years. Over time, I came to realize that my heart’s natural direction needed to shine fully through the joy of reconnecting with my roots, without losing my unique style, color, and movement. I returned to this painting after Yom Kippur, which I spent with friends at a synagogue on a farm in the desert. The experience of prayer and the freedom I felt to spend time in solitude on top of the Holy Ark stayed with me and found its way onto the canvas intuitively. This became a full circle moment for me: moving from a sense of not belonging toward an open invitation to discover my place within the Jewish people, and to bring my own unique perspective to my relationship with God and Jewish tradition. A sense of renewal in contrast to dullness and stagnation, expressed through opening up new spaces, hypnotic fire energy, and the force of life itself. The painting is made up of layers of color, lines, and doodles in the form of ripples and spirals, creating depth, movement, and a rich visual space. In the background, a stone wall hints at the Western Wall and the cracks of the heart, with a Torah scroll placed within it. The meeting of bold colors and strong black lines creates tension between different shapes, textures, and areas. The painting is open to personal interpretation and also touches on the idea of finding sweetness and healing through a broken heart.

Ayelet Hashachar Amar

Ayelet Hashachar’s work grows out of her experiences with people, nature, music and dance, prayer and solitude. Her work moves between femininity and the body, bright colors and delicate drawings, and darker, mysterious images. She is drawn to different worlds that may seem opposite at times, but beneath their differences she feels something they share — a sense of life and a feeling that awaken in her and find their way into her art. Ayelet Hashachar does not try to show reality exactly as it looks, but to express how she experiences it inside herself. Through figures, lines, movement and shapes, she gives these experiences a form that goes beyond their outer appearance. She began making art at a young age; at 13, she held her first solo exhibition in Tel Aviv and studied at the Center for Excellence in Art in Be’er Sheva. For those who look closely at her work, it can become a kind of open book to her inner world.
