Maya Geffen

$2,108

Broad vertical strokes and interlocking fields of charcoal, gray, white, and sienna create an abstract composition that feels both structural and fluid. The oil on wood surface gives the paint a controlled weight, with layered brushwork shifting between opaque passages and softer transitions. Its restrained palette and strong contrasts bring a reflective, atmospheric presence to a living space or study.

Maya Geffen

Maya Gefen, born in 1988, holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and a Masterโ€™s degree in Visual Literacy from the Kibbutzim College of Education. In her paintings, Maya seeks to deconstruct our automatic interpretations of the world around us. She paints what she sees in a way that captures the transformation the image undergoes within her mind and as it is translated onto the canvas. Moving between realism and abstraction, her oil paintings are composed of expressive shapes and brushstrokes alongside a delicate, dreamlike blur. The imagery in her work is drawn from nature, which serves as a profound source of inspiration and creation for her. Maya's pieces feature animals, body parts, archaeological sites, and landscapes. Her emphasis on materiality and on forms in constant motion and flux blurs the definitions of these subjects, transforming them into a mysterious enigma. Maya Gefen lives in Kiryat Ono and is a mother of two. Alongside her art practice, she coordinates the art department at a high school and teaches art and craft privately.
