Shoshie Katz

$936

A close-up portrait of a woman in oversized mirrored sunglasses, with the street scene vividly reflected across the lenses. Smooth oil blending shapes the face and braids, while sharper architectural edges and luminous greens and yellows animate the glasses. The contrast between calm expression and urban reflection gives the work a contemporary, self-possessed presence. Framed with dark brown frame.

Shoshie Katz

Shoshie Katz, 61, a resident of Rehovot, married and mother of two. For about 30 years, I have been engaged in the field of quality assurance and drug registration and consulting on these issues to drug development companies. In contrast to the rigid and gray world that frames my professional fields, I am drawn to the colors and contrasts that exist in our world โ€“ in people, objects and nature. These colors and contrasts sharpen my imagination and are my sources of inspiration, and I enjoy transferring them to the canvas. Following the Dolphinarium attack and the deaths of young girls, students at an art school, I decided not to postpone my dream of painting until retirement "when I have time", but to devote time to dreams and fulfillment every day โ€“ since life is too short and unpredictable! Since then, I have been painting for many years, a hobby that occupies an increasing, central and significant part of my life and fills me with excitement and satisfaction. Although I have never studied art in a formal setting, I develop my knowledge and technique in an autodidactic manner โ€“ by reading and watching study materials, from courses led by Israeli artists and from Master classes and workshops. I draw inspiration and a great deal of knowledge from the works of various artists, mainly from the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements, and participate in various painting groups in order to continue to develop and deepen my knowledge. In my works, I use different techniques, diverse materials and varying formats, with most of my works being oil on canvas. I enjoy painting in a realistic style, but I am also very attracted to the modern style and the geometric and colorful expression of reality.
