FREAKING PALESTINE

A surrealist protest artwork expressing a profound rupture in the perception of Palestinian identity, viewed through an Israeli perspective shaped by the violence and trauma of war. At the center of the composition stands an abstract figure, its intricate black lines inspired by the traditional Palestinian keffiyeh. Once a symbol of Palestinian national identity, the keffiyeh takes on a threatening, complex, and violence-laden presence within the artwork. Two distinctly different eyes dominate the figure’s face, representing a divided perception of reality. Above them, green leaves emerge, evoking the memory of another way of seeing — one that seeks to recognize the human being beyond national identity. Yet the green, symbolizing life, growth, and hope, clashes with the bleeding red that cuts through the composition. The lower part of the figure converges into an arrow piercing the ground. What begins as a geometric form transforms into an instrument of violence. At the point of impact, a pool of blood emerges. The blood is neither a decorative element nor a minor visual detail. It embodies the pain and anger from which the artwork was born, becoming its emotional and symbolic focal point. The title, FREAKING PALESTINE, conveys rage, rejection, and painful disillusionment. The artwork explores a profound transformation in the perception of the other. An identity once associated with humanity, life, and hope is now, through the artist’s eyes, overshadowed by violence and bloodshed. This is not an attempt to present a balanced or reconciliatory perspective. Rather, it gives expression to a raw, extreme, and controversial emotional response born from trauma, fear, and the collapse of trust. The artwork leaves the viewer with a disturbing question: What happens when an entire national identity becomes stained with the color of blood in our collective consciousness?

Nurit Cohen is an Israeli artist exhibiting under her full name and artistic signature, NC. After more than 20 years in the field of landscape architecture, a significant turning point in her life led her to engage in guidance, healing, and the exploration of the connection between the body, consciousness, and self-healing. In recent years, she began creating a series of original works emerging from an intuitive process of hand-drawn doodling. From free-flowing and organic lines, biomechanical, surreal, and theatrical characters gradually evolved, combining imagination, memory, and a distinct personal visual language. Her works are characterized by precise black outlines, dense compositions, and vivid colors, moving between doodle art, symbolic illustration, steampunk, and contemporary fantasy. Each piece begins as an original hand drawing and is later refined through a meticulous digital process, while carefully preserving the original linework, structure, and raw character of the artwork.
