Two enlarged hands curve inward from either side of a dark field, their blurred edges and compressed gestures creating a charged, almost claustrophobic space. Rendered digitally on paper, the work uses soft tonal transitions, deep shadow, and fleshy rose-brown highlights to heighten the sense of physical pressure and psychological intensity.

Paul & John is a studio project exploring male identity through the digital gaze, so every work is a digital illustration drawn entirely by hand, and the references come straight from today's dating culture: the selfie, the mirror shot, the dick pic. The works reflect male sexuality, and with it the way men see themselves and choose to present themselves. They range from show-off moments in front of the camera to the deepest cellars of desire. The technique was born on a basic tablet and grew into a complete visual language: the quick hand movements of pencil work, combined with the elastic behaviour of acrylic paint, which gives the drawings the feel of exposed flesh. It's a personal project, and it's a couple's project. It lets us share very intimate moments with the world, and move between the introverted and the extroverted.
